MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

Th-e monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday afternoon. There were present— Messrs W. J. Welch (chairman), J. Colquhouu, A. Murray, J. Miller, D. W. Foreman, H Toogood, R. F. R. Beetham and O. Kebbell. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as under: — From M. McGratb, asking to be relieved from payment of the Opaki water rate, as the property on which the rate was levied was not served in any way by tho water supply.—Referred to the managing ratepayers. From James Cavanagh, drawing attention to the bad state of a culvert ou the road opposite his property at Tβ Ore Ore.—Mutter left in the hands of Or Morris and the Engineer. From G. Laiug-Measou, stating that the hydraulic rams in connection with the Lausdowna water supply W6re working well. —Received. From the secretary of the Mastertou Technical School, asking the Council to nominate a candidate for election to the Board of Management —The Council satisfied with the existing Board of Managers. From the Treasury, advising of the remittance of £2010 on account of the Woraiti-Ferny hurst-road loan.—Received. From George Benton, complaining of the methods adopted by the ranger at Alfredtou iv carrying out his duties.—The Eugiueer to report at the next meeting. From the secretary of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, soliciting pecuniary assistance.—'Decided that the Council cannot see its way to grant any assistance. From the luspo"tor of Rabbits, requiring the Council to destroy the rabbits on the gravel reserve at Rangitumau.—The Engineer to be instructed to take the necessary steps to destroy the rabbits. From the Public Trust Office, consenting to the appointment of the Public Trustee as Sinking Fund Commissioner in conuectiou with the Opaki Water Supply Loan of £2000, and the Lausdowue Water Supply Loan of £4500.-Received. From the Assistant Road Engineer, stating that authorities lor Government grants were being prepared, and svould be issued shortly.—Received. From the secretary of the Taueru School Committee asking ou what terms the Council's reserve near the Taueru bridge could be obtained for the use of the school children's horses. —'Granted. From August Johuson, applying for the expenditure of thirds on the road leading to his property at Miki Miki.—Agreed to. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee reported as under—General account,dr. .£8405 19s; Local Bodies Loans account, cr., £1)33; dr. balance, £2(!3(> 11s 10d. Accounts totalling £1321 17s 8d were passed for payment. It was resolved that the Clerk be directed to furnish I each councillor with a list of the balance of grants which it is proposed Iby the Public Works Department to haud over to the Council for expenditure with a view to formulating proposals for expending the same; that the Engineer be authorised to expend the amount available from thirds ou sections 1 and f>, Block XL, Miki Miki, iv the manner suggested by Mr Aug. Johnson; that the use of the Taueru Ferry Reserve be placed at the disposal of the Taueru school children for the grazing of their horses.— Adopted. GENERAL. On the motion of Cr Murray, the Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and estimates of the cost of renewing the Te Hoe bridge. It was resolved that the Wangaehnroatl be blinded in accordance with the request of the aettiers.
