POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT.
A METALLIC CIRCUIT IN
MASTERTON
In view of the pending improvements to the Northern Approach it is the infceutiou of the Post aud Telegraph Department to avail themselves of the opportunity to install a metallic circuit. A letter was received at the meeting of the Masterton County Council yesterday from the Assistant Electrical Engineer for the Department stating that they proposed to replace the siuglo wire system in Masterton with the metallic circuit, and, with this object iv view, desired to put the work in hand at once. To introduce the system it was proposed to erect lead cables carrying the insulated leads, and it was specially desired that Lansdowue and Te Ore Oreroads and Queen-street be the first routes to receive attention, these being the main artories iv regard to the Exchange connections. Permission was asked to erect the metallic circuit pole on the edge of the footpath on the proposed new portion of the road, at the Northern Approach. This would enable the Department to erect a separate line aud to be prepared for road widening in the future at much less expense to all concerned, as the present line could then be dismantled. It was decided on the motion of Cr Toogood, seconded by Cr Murray, that the action of the chairman in granting permission to the Department to proceed with the work be confirmed.
