BATHING FATALITY.
TWO YOUNG MEN LOST

CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday
A drowning fatality occurred at New Brighton, Christchurch, yesterday morning, whereby Robert Leo, twenty years of as;e, and Dauiol G. Lac, seveuteeu years of ago, lost their lives. They wero camping witli their mother in Hood-street, and about 7..0 a,, in. went down to the beach for a bathe, telling their mother they would be back for breakfast within au hour. As they did not return at tho expiry of that period, tho mother became anxious aud weut to the beach, where she found their clothes and a towel, but no sign of her sous. So far as at present ascertainable, the fatality was not seeu by anyone, aud it is assumed that one of the young men got into difficulties owing to the strong current aud under-tow, and that the other went to his assistance, with the result that both were drowned. Duriug tiie afternoon the beach has oeeu patrolled by numbers of meu on horseback aud the police, but without being successful iv recovering the bo lies.
