Mr Hugh Girdlestone, Government Surveyor, who is stationed at Raetihi, had a very narrow escape from a serious accident recently. Although there were a large number of ladies preseut, uone of them could swim, aud it was ouly with great difficulty that Miss Jago was got out ot the water.
