POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY.
"THE BELLE OF CUBA,"
TO-NIGHT
It is almost safe to prophesy that when the curtain rises at the Town Hall to-night, the sign that gladdens the manager's heart, "standing room only," will be displayed in all part 3 of the building. There is no doubt in the public mind as to the merits of the entertainment when "The Pollards" come along, as there is no company that has ever toured New Zealand that gives as close to what was promised as this one, To-night's attraction, "The Belle of Cuba," is frankly announced as being produced "for laughing purposes only." It will be dressed and mounted on the same standard of magnificence and completeness that has always been a characteristic of the Pollard productions. Ou Monday night the attraction will be the first production on any stage by this company of the celebrated musical comedy "Miss Hook of Holland." The staging of this worldfamed work ran into close on one thousand pounds. The first act takes place in the cheese market of Arudyk, a town ou the .Zuyder Zee, and the seeoud in a distillery in Amsterdam. The whole setting aud story will come as a welcome novelty to theatre-goers. The quaint Duteli huuses, the traditional windmill, and the clatter of sabots, is a new departure in stage spectacle, and is certain to be appreciated. As the management have only secured the rights of this piece for a limited period, it cauuot be repeated on any subsequent visit.
