It is said that several members of the Napier Borough Council have forfeited their seats, because they have been supplying the Council with goods and this is illegal. Probably this sort of thing goes ou in a greater or less degree in many parts of New Zealand, but, for some reason or another, the Napier culprits have been put in the pillory. It seems strange tiiat for the s.ake of a pound or two of private profit public men will risk their seats. Then, too, the administrative officers of a borough should be blamed .for such transgression. They must know the law on the subject, aud without their consent an illegal act could not be committed. The Napier inoident is paltry and contemptible, because the amount of money for supplios by concillors was inconsiderable. It will do good by directing public attention to the provisions of the municipal act, and probably we shall hear no more of undesirable practices of this nature.
