CATHOLIC PICNIC.
AN ENJOYABLE OUTING.

The glorious weather that prevailed yesterday contributed materially to the success of the Catholic aunual picnic at Newman, aud, together with the popularity of the event, was responsible for a record attendance. A special train convoyed a largo crowd of holiday-makers' from Mastertou, while other places aloug the live contributed their quota, and numerous coaches brought visitors from Pahiatua. Thauks to au energetic committee, aud to tho energy also of the Very Rev. Deau McKeuua, Father T. McKenua and Father Saunderson, au excellent programme of events was got off, aud both young and old spout a thoroughly enjoyable day. Appended are the results of the events:—

Boys' Race, under twelve years.— Tahakai 1. J. Olsen 2, D. Knight 3. Boys' Race, uuder seventeen years. —I. tieury 1, J. Counell and H. Williams dead heat, 2. D. Welch won the gold medal presented by the Mastertou Hibernian Society for the competitor scoring most points duriug tiie day; R. Gray was runuer-up. Mr J. Bradbury acted efficiently iv the capacity of time-keeper.
