Tho Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting opened at Riccarton today in five weather. The attendance was only moderate. Tiie totalisator investment-: only reached £3298, as against £4781 last year. The appeal of the jockey B. Deeley agaiust the twelve months' suspension imposed upon him by the Takapuua Jockey Club came before.tho Auckland Metropolitan Committee on Tuesday night. It was decided to dismiss the appeal, and to endorse the decision of the Takapuua Jockey Club stewards. Master Soult is a regular attendant ou tho training tracks at Ellerslie. The bay horse has not yet got rid of the effects that followed on his mishap in the spring, and as a result Dennis Morraghau is restricting his horso to very light tasks. It is said that All Red makes his exit from the racing arena after the Wanganui Cup meeting, as his owner requires him for stud duty. "Vigilant," in Loudon Sportsman, says that the best two horses of this century are undoubtedly Spearmint and Bayardo. The former is by Carbine, and the other by Bay Ronald. In Loudon, last month, odds of £500 to £100 were accepted about Lemberg for the next English Derby. A similar bet was registered about Neil Gow. The Takapuna and C.J.C. meetings will be concluded to-morrow.
Prim is reported to be amiss. She did not start in the Midsummer Handicap at Riccartou yesterday. The Auckland horses, Uranium, Miss Winnie and Wauchope have been scratched for their engagements at the Egmout meeting. It is said that Stormont, the Grand National Hurdle Race winner of 1908, who was recently sold to Mr W. Cowie, of Otautau, Otago, is hopeless as a raciug proposition. Auyway, his now r owner intends to try his luck witli him. The twenty-seveuth coutest for the Middle Park Plate comes up for decision at Riccartou to-morrow r . Horses owned by the late Mr Geo. G. Stead have prevailed in thirteen events, one of their number in Bloodshot winning twice, in 1895 and 1896. Sir George Clifford has won the three last contests, aud he wili be represented tomorrow by Madam Madcap and Countermine. MenschikofTs time of lmiu Msec, established in 1901, still stands as a time record for the race. Tbe Ellerslie trainer, T. A. Williams, had a good day at Takapuna on Saturday last, exactly half the programme being captured by horses hailing from his establishment. Crucinalla will make her next appearance at the Wanganui meeting. The three-year-old colt, Ideate, by Birkenhead—ldea, has been sold by the Hon. J. D. Ormond to the Canterbury sportsman, Mr J. Westerman. Ideate is now trained by R. Longley I at Riccarcon.
