ASHBURTON, Last Night
The Ashburtou Agricultural and Pastoral Association's thirty-second annual dhow opened to-day iv ideal
weather. Th? entries were two bund
reel iv excess of last year, the increase being chiefly in iiorses, sheep and cattle, in the order given. The outstanding feature of the Show was the excellence of the horse exhibits,
which, taken as a wliok , , are con
sidered by judges in a positiou to advance an authoritative opinion, to be the finest ever siiown in Canterbury, perhaps excepting the Metropolitan Show. The sheep classes were well filled, but with the exception of the Border and English Leicester and fat iamb classes, competition was not very strong, although the quality was uniformly good. Cattle aud pigs wore well Up to the previous standard, but competition was also limited. Produce aud home exhibits made au attractive display, and generally the Show is considered highly creditable, and a record. Although competition from sources outside the country is stronger than ever before, the bulk of the prizes were secured by local breeders and exhibitors. The prospects for the second day are excellent.
