GATHERING AT BLENHEIM.
(By Telegraph—Special to Daily Times.)
BLENHEIM, This Day. The Maiiborough Baud Coutest is favoured with lovely weather.
The cornet section, on Tuesday night, with a few exceptions, was disapoomtiug, but both Elliott (Petoue), the wiuuor. aud Reeves (Blenheim) gave creditable performances. The basses, yesterday, wore good all round. In the evening the quartettes produced some fine playing by the Weslport teams aud Blenheim, the former taking first aud third. The best section, however, took place this morning, especially in tho tenor trombones, aud it was generally considered one of the finest all-round expositions which has taken place iv the colony, the judge admitting that he had never heard finer playing iv his experience.
Westport are capturing most of the solos. The judging, so far, is very popular, while the remarks made by Mr McLeod at the conclusion of each competition are appreciated.
