The great annual fixture lias couie round again, aud all that is required to cause a pronounced success is that tiio weather—that all importaut consideration—remains auspicious. On Monday a terrific downpour descended, speedily filliug the water chauuels of the streets to overflowing aud forming a series of miniature lakes indifferent places. During Monday night aud Tuesday forenoon heavy rain fell, aud the whole cnmaiuuity was downcast at the prospect of the Show being rr.iued by wet weather. About 10 a. m on Tuesday, a brisk breeze spraug up. and with it rose the spirits of all interested in the success of the Annual Carnival—and who in Palmerston, or the whole district, is not interested in that respect? All Tuesday the exhibits of machinery aud implements have been pouring into the Show Grounds, and it has taken the various stesvards all their time to provide for their accommodation. The judging will take place on each of the three days of the Show, but all stock will be bn exhibition on Friday, the closing day. There is every reason to .anticipate au euormons attendance, and the special trains are expected to be crowded. Even now there is some difficulty in procuring accommodation by those who have neglocten to make provision in that respect. Judging by the way iv which the brisk windand sunshine ot yesterday have dried up the soil, everywhere, no complaints need be anticipated iv regard to the slopuy state of the Show Ground. At present everything poiuts to success, and the officials are sanguine of their anticipations being abundantly realised. The various competitions are looked forward to with keenest interest, as in some of the more importaut. events exceptionally large fields have entered. The parade of prize stock on Friday will elicit lunch interest, and the exhibition of machinery, etr., and the attractions of the permanent stalls will be special features in each day's programme. The Art aud Techuical Schools exhibits will—to a large number of visitors—prove of engrossing interest. There will be the usual annual huge gathering of visitors from all parts, and to this immense concourse the Main Truuk Line will, doubtless, contribute its full quota. As regards the exhibits of stock the chief interest appears to centre in the sheep exhibits. Iv the Lincoln class, rams over 18 mouths aud under 30 months, Mr W. Perry is represented by six exhibits, Mr W. H. Wybourne, the same number, Mrs Ormoud five, other breeders smaller numbers. Mr W. Perry is also represented in the class ram, :>0 months and upwards, 18 months aud under, by two exhibits; ewe IS months or under, three exhibits; ewe over IS mouths and under 30 mouths, with Lincoln lamb, suckling, at foot, two exhibits ; ewe over 30 mouths, also with lamb at foot, two exhibits; two ewes. 18 mouths, or uuder, two exhibits; two ewes, auy age. lamb at foot, one exhibit (Mr W. H. Wybourne being the odly other exhibitor iv this class). In several of the classes, the entries were larger than last year. For instance, Liucolu rams, 18 months aud uuder, last year, eight—tins year, thirteen; Lincoln rams, over IS months aud under :J0 mouths, last year, eighttins year,.2B; ram '.'>Q mouths aud upwards, last year, seven —this year niue. Among the new exhibitors iv Lincoln? this year, are Mrs Ormoud, Messrs J. R." McElwain. W. H. Wybourue, aud A. V. Collins. Last year Mr W. Perry had twenty exhibits iv the .Lincoln class; this year he has 20. Last year Mr W. H. Wybourne was not represented iv that class, this year ho lias a total of twenty-six exhibits in the various sections.' A medal is offered for champion ram aud champion esve; a silver cup. valued at £10 10s. presented by the Wolseley Siieap Shearing Machine Company, for the champion Lincoln ram iv the wool, to he won twice consecutively or three tiraes at iutervals, •and the N.Z Sheep Breeders' Association (North Island) offer a fitfeolal priz3 of silver shield for champion Lincoln ram competition, limited to flocks registered in the N.Z. Sheep Breeders' Association Flock Book. The only exhibitors last year that are riot represented this year in the Lincoln class are Messrs W. Gadsby, H. Gai&ford, aud T- A. Hunter. The total Lincoln exhibits last year were forty-eight, as compared with eightynine this year.

In Romney Marsh Mis entries this year are not qnite so numerous as last year, the figures being--last year, 192; this year, 189. Among the exhibitors In the Romney class this year are suoh well-known breeders as Messrs E. Short, W. Perry, W. H. Buick, Geo. Wheeler, C. A. J. Levett, W. B. Allen. ,H. S. Hadfield, H. R. Elder, R.
