PARIS, Yesterday.

The dirigible balloon Republique, after attaining a height of 1000 metres (over 3250 feet), made a circuit of 100 kilometres (tf2 1-10 miles) over the scene of the army maueouvres near La Rochelle, a fortified seaport on the .Bay of Biscay.

The RepuDlique then hovered, at a

height of 250 metres above the position

occupied by the defenders aud dropped »a bagful of observations made by staff officers in the balloon car.
