It is probable that the Featherstou Tenuis Club will wind up tho season with a social.

Tho Programme Committee ot tho South Wairarapa Poultry Association met ou Saturday, at Carterton, and revised the programme for the annual Show in Juue. It was decided, owing to the lateness of the season, not to include a class for collection of vegetables from Wairarapa school gardens, but to add same to tho programme uext year. It was also decided to consider the* question of placing a sheep dog trial class ou the list for next year. The General Committee will meet on Saturday afternoon to consider aud adopt the programme. The final of the Carterton Bowling Club's Easter Tournament was won by Messrs H. McPhoo aud J. M. Lightfoot. As a result of a complaint made by the Cartertou Chamber of Commerce about the Lougbnsh mail for Cartertou being carried ou to Masterton aud theu sent back, the postal authorities have made arrangements for the Longbush coach to leave there at 7.40 a.m., instead of S a.m.. arriving at Gladstoue at 5.40 a.m., whence correspondence will be despatched to both Carterton aud Masterton. A drawn game of football was played ou Saturday afternoon, at Cartertou, betweeu the Clareville Maori College autl Cartertou High School, each side scoring three points. Mr A. N. Burns was referee. The benefit cauvass and coucert on behalf of the widow of the late Mr Edward Collins, of Carterton, resulted in £75 lis Dd being obtained. Of that amouut, £30 has beeu hauded to Mrs Collins, aud the balance (which after deductions for sundry expenses amounts to £3S Us i'd) has beeu lodged in the Bank.

Ou Friday night a horso belonging to Mr J. W" Couiptou. of Clareville. dropped dead at Taratahi, while beiug driven aloug tbe road Mr Vuughan, of the Martinborough brauch of the Bank of Australasia, has beeu transferred to Stratford. The Tenuis Club, of which ho was secretary, made him a presentation prior to'his departure. Mr G. H. Herbert, South Wairarapa Cotmtv Council Engineer, ou Saturday paid a visit to tbe Te Wharau district. Ou the whole, he found the roads iv very good order. The members of the Wairarapa aud East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society aud the Taratahi-Cartertou Raciug Club, ou Saturday eveuing, through Mr W. Howard Booth, presented Mrs C-. W. Deller with a handsome set of silver-backed brushes, iv appreciation of her assistance to Mr Deller iv carrying out the useful work he had accomplished for the above Societies. Mr W. C. Buchauau, M. P., also spoke a few words of appreciation on behalf of the Societies. and Mr Deller responded on behalf of Mrs Deller.

Municipal matters iv Cartertou are very "dead" at preseut. aud from appearances it is going to be a tl i til - culty to muster enough to form a Couucil. Of the Council retiring, it is understood that only one intends to seek re-electiou. There is oue aspirant for the Mayoral chair, for it is understood that Mr J. T. M. Horusby has decided to consent, to nomination.

At Greytowu, ou Saturday, Mr E. J. Haigh, fifth sou of Mr S. Haigh, of that town, was married to Miss Kate Poad, of Petoue. The ceremony was performed by tbe Rev. W. J. Elliott, in the Methodist Church. The bride wa? giveu away by Mr H. Udy, and attended by Misses Udy (2), M. Haigh and T. Johnson as bridesmaids. Mr James Haigh was best man, and the honeymoon is being spent in Wellington. On Thursday evening the Methodists at Featherston are tendering a welcome social to Mr E. W. Pittendreigh and the Rev. W. G. Masliu. the newly-appointed ministers, and the following eveniug they will be welcomed at a social in Carterton.

The Featherston Rifle Club commenced their championship match on Saturday, the 200 yds and 500 yds ranges being decided. C. Nix is leading with a score of BS., H. Bockett being next 82, and W. W. Wakely third 81.

A movement is afoot to establish a Musical aud Dramatic Club in Martinborough. On Monday, Mr aud Mrs H. Kemp left Carterton on a trip to Rotorua. Mrs Kemp has beeu a sufferer from rheumatism for some time past, and it is for her benefit that the trip is being made. The Martinborough Town Board's estimates for the current year are:-— Expenditure, £844 Is Id; receipts, £250; the balance. £593 17s 4d, it is proposed to raise by striking a rate of in the £ on town property. __ library rate and a recurring interest rate are also to be struck.

Tbe Carterton Druids are placing the following team in the seven-a-side football tournament at Masterton next month:—Messrs T_. McKenzie, R. Crawley, N. McKenzie, H. McKinnon, H. McKenzie, A. Cadwallader and V. L. Fairbrother.
