Armenians made a desperate resistance, aud inflicted heavy losses ou their assailauts before they wore over-

Eight warships—British, French, and Germans—aro concentrating at Mersiua, thirty-six miles south-west of Adaua, of which it is the seaport. Mauy foreigners aud native Christians have takeu refuge iv the Consulates there, aud it is feared the troops at the disposal of the Governor are iusufficieut to withstaud the onslaught of Moslems from the north. Hi British aud French warships have beeu ordered to Alexaudretta, a port of the Aleppo district, south-east of Adaua. Here the tow T v is seriously threatened by Moslems. Christians at Tarsus, nearly midway betweeu Mersiua aud Adaua, were attacked aud some were massacred, aud a portiou of the town is burning. The British battleships Swiftsure aud Triumph have left Malta for Turkish waters, aud the cruiser Diaua has beeu ordered to proceed to Beirut.
