The R.M.S. Ortona (7945 tons), when twenty miles south of Eddystone lighthouse, collided with the steamer Tryst (580 tons). The Tryst struck the Ortona amidships on the port side. ' One of the Ortona's screws was twisted, but she suffered no material damage. The captain of the Ortona states that when the collision took place there was no one at the Tryst's bridge wheel. The Ortona proceeded to Plymouth. The Tryst foundered shortly after the collision. The crew were rescued.
