Dr Ewnrt, medical superintendent of Wellington Hospital, has forwarded his resignation to the trustees. It was regretfully accepted, the chairmau mentioning in reply to Mr Nash, that there was no prospect of inducing Dr Ewart to reconsider his decision. The doctor felt that if he was to enter private practice at all, the time was now. The chairman had intimated that if any reasonable increase of salary would meet the case there would be, he thought, no difficulty experienced, for he thought he knew the minds of the trusteas. The resignation drew from all the trustees expressions of their great regret, and it was resolved to refer to the House Committee a suggestion by Mr McEwau that something more than a mere resolution should be passed by the trustees to mark their full appreciation of Dr Ewart's long and vainable services in his post. Applications are to be advertised for by the Wellington Hospital Trustees from qualified medical men willing to act as medical superintendent of the hospital. The salary is to be £500 per annum to begin with, plus allowances.
