The wicket on Saturday was very soft and cut up badly from the commeucemenfc of the game. Considering the wicket was therefore a bowler's one, the Masterton team (battiug 2 short), put up a creditable performance. Suttou, Mackellar, Esson, Perry, and Redmond, each reached double figures, and for the first match of the seasou, batted in good form for their runs. The two promoted ;;uniors, Suttou and Thompson, batted remarkably well, and should give a good account of themselves as the seasou progresses. Mackellar was in a hitting humour, and made the only two boundary hits of the match, one drive for 5 runs being, an especially good stroke. R. Workman came out with the best bowling analysis for team, capturing 3 wickets for JNBruns. Wheu Greytown went in to bat the light was bad, and eight wickets fell for half-au-hour's play, with the score sheet showing only 13 ruus. The first wicket fell for 4 runs, and the next 7 wickets did not put on a single run. Wines and Maxtou managed to keep their wickets up until the call of time, the partnership addiug 1) runs. Both Redmond and Kawsou bowled well, keeping a good length. The former's analysis could , not be much improved upon, 6 wickets for 3 runs beiug an analysis to be proud of. I uuderstand that the match is to be continued next Saturday, aud if so, I trust the Masterton team will make a special effort to leave Masterton by not later than 1.30 p.m
