MEETING OF STEWARDS

A meeting of the Stewards of the Mar-iterton Racing Club was held on the racecourse at Opaki on Saturday, and whs attended by Messrs 0. F. Vallauce, 0. A. Pownall, D. McLachlan, A. G. Pilmer, J. Cress. W. Cooper, J. Macara, O. C. Cooper, W. Platt, R. Buick, A. Reside, C. H. Smith, W. D. Watson and J. lorns

The secretary of the Wellington Racing Club wrote stating that he had removed A. Naylor's name and the horse The Ruler from'tho unpaid forfeit list.

A letter from the Masterton Soutli Brass Baud, offering their services at the next race meeting, was Jield over.

It was decidod to invite Mr L. G. West, architect, of Palmerston North, to meet the Ground Committee with reference to the proposed re-arrange-ment of buildings on the course.

It was resolved to cover the scraping sheds with iron and otherwise put them in good repair. It was resolved to recommend the incoming Stewards to erect a new grandstand in the inside enclosure, capable of accommodating from one thousand to one thousand five hundred people, and other necessary improvements and re-arrangements as recommended by the Ground Committee.

Thirteen trainers using the Opaki course presented a petition eulogising the services of the present custodian (Mr H. Welch), and expressing their appreciation of tlio manner in which the course was kept. —The testimonial was received with satisfaction.

Mr F. E. Lamb submitted a competitive plan .for the 'proposed new grandstand, but no acfciou was taken. One new member was elected.
