ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPORTS ASSOCIATION.
~ ; a. . , ANNUAL MEETING
Tho annual meeting of the St. Patrick's Day Sports Association was hold on Saturday evening, and was attended by about fifteen members. Mr H. J. O'Leary, President, occupied the chair.
The balance-sheet, an epitonio of which has already boon published, was read and adopted.
The report oi" ,I'he Executive Committoo for tho past year expressed regrot that owing to the unfavourable weather for the last annual sports meeting a loss of over £o() was experienced. The loss was accentuated by the fact that the conditions wore similar tho previous year. Tho nominations for tho various handicap events were quite on a par with previous years, and with favourable weather tho meeting would have been a financial success. The thanks of the Association were accorded to Messrs E. E. Chamberlain. 11. J. O'Leary, W. Gillespio, and J. Halligau for donations, and the secretary for remitting his usual commissions on members' subscriptions and charge for gas and rout of room for Committee meetings, amounting iv all to a> donation of £8. A request was made for the early payment of subscriptions, in order to establish a sound crodit balance, and assure tho Association carrying on with advantage. The Ladies' Oommitteo were thanked for the success of tho social and dance.
The Chairman, referring to the report and balauco-sheet, considered the Association was in a satisfactory position considering the set-backs experienced. The nominations received at last sports meeting were equal to any previous gathering, but the wet weather had completely spoilt the day. This lessened the fields, and necessitated the abandonment of the swimming races. He would bo one of the last to wind up the Association, but if members did not give more support there would be no other cour&e open. Ho would do all in his power to keep tho Association afloat, but lie deprecated tho action of a good many members—so-called Irishmen—who did nothing but look on and criticise, instead of coming forward with assist-
ance. Mr A. Haughey considered that if die Association had had anything like ordinary luck chero would now be a kirgo balance standing to its credit, instead of only a few shillings. However, the balance-sheet; disclosed a satisfactory position. He fully expected that members would have to put their hauds in thoir pockets avid pay out. Ho urged members to shake oil: the lukowarmuess which seemed to bo a feature of the last year or two, and put more enthusiasm into the Association's affairs, and thus carry it over a critical time.
Mr F. Haughey said there was nothing wanting iv the enthusiasm of monibors. Tim present financial posiciuu was merely duo to two wot sports' days oceiirriiig iv succession. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Very Rev. Deau MeKeuua; President, Mr" A. Haughey; Vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. Oecimau ami W. C. Smith ; Treasurer, Mr F. Haughey ; Secretary, Mr 0. A.
