THE DEVOURING LADIES.
The great sale at the D.1.0. in Wellington lias been giving some amusement to the mere man looking on. As prices for this clearance have been cut much more than usual, the ladies arrived early, in thousands, and worked hard. During the opening days the floors groaned with the weight of women. Salesmen were harassed to the last .extremity. The rush on the most vpopular departments—dress materials' and household linens—was unprecedented. the special staff that deals with mail orders had no easy time; for mail orders came in shoals, and it was difficult to fill all of them with dispatch, when the departments were crowded and eager bar-gain-hunters stampeded at'all* the counters. But, slowly, things settled into.shape; and, now, although the great rush continues, things are very smooth and comfortable.*
