MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The; usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday, the 25th July., ~ ■

Present—Crs F. W. H. Knmmer (chairman), 11. J; Dagg, J. F. Heckler and J. E. Perry. ' Apologies for absence were received from Ors C. Churchill Jackson and 0. A. Wall.

The .Commissioner of Crown Lauds wrots stating that in future settlers couseuts to ~. expenditure, of. thirds will not be required, as au officer of the Land Board will report on proposals for expenditure of tliirds before such come before the Board for consideration.

Notice of a case of scarlet fever at Hastwell was received from the medical attendant. •

The Ranger sent iv his resignation. A recipient of charitable aid attended and asked for increased assistance. After replying to inquiries respecting the manner in which the allowance had been expended, it was resolved to increase the allowance to 20s weekly. The Chairman reported the result of his inquiries re procuring a supply of broken metal from outside the district, and it was resolved to order a thousand cubic .yards, provided the cost is moderate, also that iv the event of the metal being got, 300 yards be deposited "at Mauriceville and 700 yards ac MaugaimJioe.

Tho Ranger's resignation was accepted, and it was resolved to invite applications for tho position.

Mr T. T. Hillas'attended the meeting re cutting a drain on the road reserve at his frontage and that of Miss Bruce.—lt was arranged that the Chairman should inspect the work and see whether it is such as the Council cau assist.

The Chairman was also appointed to meet the District Engineer re shifting fence at. Broderseu's-roacl.

Cr Heckler was appointed to deal with repairs to Maugaorauga bridge, aud get a notice affixed warning users that the bridge is dangerous.

It was resolved to strike a general rate of seven-eigiiths of a penny iv the pound for the current year. Accounts amounting to £1330 Is Id were passed for payment.
