The ordinary meeting of Court Makakahi, No. 8382, was held on Tuesday. The nomination of officers resulted as follows:—C.R., Bro. Fauvel; 5.0. R., Bro. M. Carter; S.W., Bro. B. Nicol; J.W., Bro. A. Cox; 5.8., Bro. Cittadini; J. 8., Bros. Donald, MoKenzie and W. Anderson; Secretary, Bro. Wise; Treasurer, Bro. T. Knight; Auditor, Bro. A. Anderson.
The weather here is perfect, and we have been specially favoured by occasional light showers on two nights lately, consequently the country is looking splendid.
A well-known Hastings man tells this story against himself with much gusto. He was at an evening party, when the young lady of the house, a maid of seven summers, gazed at him raptly, nntil finally he began to feel rather flattered, at the attention. "I wonder," she said at last, "how it is that your children are so pretty. Mr —.?" The gentleman concerned was unable to throw any light on the extraordinary fact, and the problem was abandoned.
