KOPUARANGA NOTES.
{Special to Daily Times.}
A young man named John Davis met with a serious accident on Saturday afternoon. He was driving a mowing machine on Mr R. D. McKenzie's farm, when the horses bolted, and he was thrown, the machine passing over him, breaking a leg and inflicting some bad gashes. Dr Cook was sent for, and on his arrival ordered the injured man to be sent to the Masterton Hospital.
Still no rain ! The matter is now becoming serious with us, although it seems to be eveu worse with our Opaki neighbours. Our country retained its green look for quite a fortnight longer, but now all is giving way to the dull browu of "burnt up" pasture. It appears probable that, like last year, a large part of the turnips and rape will have to be re-sown. The oats are coming into ear when not a third of their full height. However, a thunder shower or a clay's good raiu will yet save the situation, but only if it comes quickly. The largest shed finished shearing on Saturday. There remains now only a couple of sheds to finish, and the district's shearing will be ended before Christmas—a record.
Some people have peculiar ideas of a practical joke. At a cinematograph entertainment in the Public Hall, some hoodlums fastened the door with wire from the outside, blocking the exit. Au alarm of fire would have turned the matter into anything but a joke both for those inside and the jokers. (Such 'jokes" are deserving of most severe punishment, considering what the possible outcome might have been. —Ed.)
