His Majesty the King is credited with the possession of a two-year-old of class in Perrier, a bay colt by Persimruou from Amphora, who was bred at the Royal stud. In every instance the fields are large, aud there is also a good sprinkling of quality. On Mouday last a frieudly bullet terminated the career of Red Gauutlett, who was one of the most popular performers ou the turf iv receut years. One of the most remarkable things about Red Gauutlett is the success he achieved in the O.J.C. Handicap. James Pine, who has beeu fined three times for using abusive language to racing officials, was suspended for three months at the last meeting of the 0.J.0. Committee. Marte'lo, the full brother to Royal Artillery, who fell sore on the eve of the C.J.C. Spring Meeting, is stated to have shaken off his ailment, and hopes are entertained that lie will be again seen out uuder silk shortly. L. H. Hewitt's luck in England has taken a turn for the better. Mr W. Hall Walker, who heads the winning owners' list in England this year, has taken a faucy to his horsemanship, and has engaged him for next season. At Saudown Park on October 24th, Hewitt won a two-year-old race ou a 16 to 1 chance, owned by Sir T. E. Dewar. Mr Hall Walker saw the race, and was highly pleased at his choice of a jockey for next season. Hewitt's new employer owns several good young horses, and beuefitting by past experience, the New «jalander should do well iv the Old Jtautry next year. Iv a letter to a iend, Hewitt stated that Mr Hall Walker was paying him £1000 as a retaining fee. Slmipuel's win in the Spring Handicap at Takapuua, last Saturday earns for him a 31b penalty in the Auckland Cup, which brings his weight up to 7st 31b.

Messrs Barnett and Grant, the leading metallicians of the Dominion, are circularising their clients to the effect that they have closed their office and ceased operations. The New Zealand horse Volume has reached India in good condition, and will be a competitor in the Viceroy's Cup. During November the three-year-old Elevation won races over five furlongs, one mile and a furlong, a mile and ahalf, and two miles and a-quarter—a record that proves the all round excellence of the chestnut son of San Francisco and Stepfeldt

The Jockey Glub Cup at Newmarket last mouth must have been a farcial affair. The distance was two and a quarter miles, the competitors being the White Knight and Radium, Bst 121b each, and Torpoint, 9st 21b. The three moved off at a trot, and the starter, after descending from the M>strum and mounting his hack, was jjlfront of them at the end of six furlongs. Then he took a short cut back to the paddock. The time for the first mile was 3min 18sec, and then in what was practically a five furlong sprint Radium beat the White Knight, on whom odds of 11 to 4 were laid. The full distance took 5. mm 32sec. The respective riders of the White Knight and Torpoint knew their mounts needed a strong pace, and yet were content to canter for the greater part of the distance, thereby running the race to suit Radium.
