EDUCATION BOARD.
The rep'brfc of the Works and Finance Committee recommended that the following grants be approved:—Maurioeville, shed, etc., £12; MaugatainoUa, repairs to roof and fencing, £17; Hastwell, flooriug, £8; Korora, rearrangement of stove at residence, £3; Rakauui, fencing repairs, £2; Cross Greek, voraudah and fencing at residence, £21; Rikiorangi, metalling, £3 10s; South Wellington, raising shelter shed, £10 10s; Pouacahi, new tank, £5; Oartertou old school, painting inside, £35; South Wellington, hyloplate round central hall, £35, committee contributing £50. That applications for resideuco be dealt with as follows: —Ngaturi, approved; Korokoro, declined. That separate tenders be invited for the lease of town acres 1065 and 1073 for six years, and Hufcfe old residence site for five.years. That the ! offer of an area of i acre 0 roods (5 polos, adjoining the school site at Te Ore Ore bo acceptod, contribution of £30 being promised by Te Ore Ore Trust; department to bo asked to provide balance. The sections 17 and 18, at Waikauao, be recommended to the department for purchase at £120. That a new site be purchased at WaihiMauuhara Junction, of four acres, for re-erection of a school to be removed from Mnku.
The report was adopted. The Board received applications for forty vacancies for teachers. It'was resolved to purchase a section for a school site at Marauui.
The Chief luspoctor, in reporting on advanced sewing classes for standards 5 and (> in the secondary schools, said the question that arose was—could the classes be made to pay? He thought not, but tfiG classes might be undertaken by members of the school staff, who would bo induced to take them up by the capitation if 5s were paid. The matter was referred to the Schools Committee.
