V.M.C.A.
SOCIAL AND MUSICAL CLUB
FIRST MONTHLY SOCIAL
The V.M.C.A. Social and Musical Club (a new branch of the Association formed to bring together the younger members) held their first monthly social in the Y.M.U.A. Rooms, last evening. There were over twenty members present, and a pleasant time was spent. The Chairman (Mr V. Williams) said that the Club had just been formed, and at present the membership was something like thirty, which was very creditable. He went on to state the objects of the Club, and said that he hoped in time it would be instrumental in bringing new members to the Y.M.O.A.
After the social, several present who were not members of the Association notified their intention of joining.
A first-class musical programme was given considering that most of those who contributed had never before appeared in public. The following toasts were honoured: *' The King," "V.M.C. A. Social and Musical Club," " The Gustodian," "The Board of Management," "The Ladies," "The Pianist" and "The Press." The following contributed songs:—Messrs F. Phillips (encored), 0. Cole, J. Borry, V. Williams, S. Harris, R. Hatch, B. Stringer, P. Bennett, W. Williams, and D. La Roche. Recitations were given by Messrs W. Williams and J.,Winchester. Mr F. Cole acted as pianist, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A very enjoyable evening closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
