A HOT CHASE

HE EVADES CAPTURE

ESCAPES INTO A DENSE BUSH.

(Bu Telegmvh — Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday.

For some days, past nothing was heard of Lionel Terry, who escaped from Seacliff Mental Hospital three weeks ago. To-day, however, Detective Hunt, of Dunedin, and Constable Kidd, of Waikouaiti, came across Mini in the back couutry. As they approached him his suspicious became aroused, and he placed a barbed wire fence between them and himself. He admitted his identity, and said that he was aware they were police officers. Oα being invited to accompany them, he said he was not yet tired of his free life, and thereupon walked away. The police officers pursued him on foot, but he ran away at full speed, and sought cover in some dense bush, where he was searched for in vain. In the course of the chase Detective Hunt fell heavily, sustaining a nasty gash on the forehead, and injuring his hand as a result of coming into contact with boulders with which the ground was strewn. The police state that Terry was wearing boots instead of the sandals in which he escaped, and that he looked remarkably fresh and hearty.
