WAGES BOARDS.
Feeling in Dunedin
(Post's Correspondent.)
DUNEDIN, Friday,
Enquiries made among representatives, botii of employers and of Labour lenders, show an attitude of expectancy in regard to the proposed Wages Boards. No one seems to regret the abolition of Conciliation Boards, for it is, pretty generally conceded that Parliament practically strangled them when it amended the law "in the direction of allowing trades disputes to be taken direct to the Arbitration Court. Both sides are getting full information regarding the Victorian Wages Boards. One member of the Trades and Labour Council, who seemingly had discussed the matter with the Minister of Labour, declared that the Wages Boards here will be very different from the Wages Boards in Victoria or elsewhere. "We have, ,1 he pointed out, "an Arbitration Act in force, aud we have our past experience in regard to the Conciliation Boards to guide us. This gentleman was of opinion that in view of these factors the introduction of boards of experts for each industry to bring the principle of conciliatiou to bear on disputes would mean the speedy settlement of the latter, and would enable New Zealand to retain her position as the world's leader in regard to industrial legislation.
