The annual social of the milk suppliers of the Dalelield Dairy Factory is to he held next month.
Word has been received in Carfertou of the dearh of Mrs Leonard Hamilton, wife of Mr L. Hamilton, of Petone. and daughter of Mr P. Harmau. of Carterton. The sad event occurred in the Wellington Hospital, where the deceased lady had been a pariem for some months. The sum of about £2000 will lie paid our on Monday by the Belvedere Dairy Factory, being an interim dividend" of threepence per lb of butter fat on the season's supply of milk.
The dairy factories at Taratahi. Parkvale, and Belvedere have closed down for the season, while the Daleiield factory will close down at the end of the present mouth. Mr T. \V. Sparks, son of Mr T. Sparks, of Carterton, has formed a company to start a newspaper at Clyde, *in the Wairoa district, Hawke's Bay. The journal will be known as the Clyde Leader.
Mr E. A. Heffernan. late engineer to the Wairarapa .South County Council, has been appointed engineer to (lie Comity Council in Uralla, Gosfwyeksliire New South Wales.
Negotiations are proceeding in connection with the purchase or' the Carringtou Estate for closer settlement by the Government. Messrs Barron (Chairman of the Land Purchase Commission), Recce (a Laud Purchase Commissioner), aud Humphries (Sur-veyor-General) are in Carterton, valuing the estate. It is understood that Mr W. Howard .Booth, owner of the property, desires to retain about 300 acres, on which are built all the principal buildings. The annual meeting of the Carterton Bowling Club was held on Thursday night, Mr W. Fisher, President, presiding. The balance-sheet showed income £178 7s 8d; expenditure,£llo 14s. Credit at Bank £(57 13s Bd, liabilities £30!) ss; assets, £587 His 3<l; balance assets, £278 11s 2d. The annual report was adopted. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr W. C. Buchanan; President, Mr J. M. Li'ghtfoot; Vice-President, Mr H. McPhee ; Secretary, Mr A. Phillpotts ; Auditor, Mr John Brown; Treasurer, Mr O. H. Cormack. General Committee : Messrs Masson. Whyte, Ramsay, Downard, G. Leach, Bish and Canton; Green Committee: Messrs Bish and A. Booth; Match Committee, Messrs Masson, Ramsay and McPhee ; Refreshment Committee, Mr W. Downard. In regard to the Booth Cup, Mr Cormack suggested pro • curing a shield ou which to record the names of the winning clubs for the cup, for exhibition in the pavilion of the Club which holds it for the season. Mr' Fisher suggested that the win of each individual rink be counted as a point, and the winning club on these points be the holders instead of as at present, the win being decided by the aggregate points of the rinks in all the matches. Both suggestions were held over, pending consultation with other clubs interested. Mr \V. Moore donated a pair of bowls for competition next year. The advance in the price of bread in several of the Wairarapa townships has not reached Greytown yet. Prior to leaving Greytown, Mr F. L. Dunn was presented with a travelling bag from his fellow employees at the W.F.C.A.
