AN OVERCROWDED PICNIC.

AUCKLAND, Yesterday.
St. Patrick's Day picnic to Motutapu. em Saturday. Avas marred by au unfortunate' incident. Three ferry steamers landed three thousand children ami au equal number of adults during the day. On the hemie-Avard journey the children AYe-re sent away about five o'clock crmvding three steamers. A creiAvel of three thousand people, mostly adults, gathered on the uarrenv patlnvay waiting for the steamers' return, and it Avas 10.30 before the last of the excursionists reached toAvn. In the crush at the island Avomen and children suffered much discomfort, and many had te) be assisted out of the crowd. Various articles of jewedlery Aye re lost.
