Passing of a Well-Known Athlete.
Mr George Robinson (Teoti Rapatini), of Little River (Canterbury), died at Wairewa, on Tuesday. Ho was prominent among the Little River Maoris, and was a well-known figure both on the Peniimla and in Christchurch. His age was sixty-three years. As a young man he was celebrated in heavy athletics, but was most prominent as a wrestler, Cumberland style. When Donald Dinnie paid his first visit to' Canterbury, George Robinson essayed a fall or two with the great Scottish champion, who confessed that the half-caste Maori was indeed a foeman worthy of his steel. Hudson, another wrestler, found Robinson a difficult contract, and he also proved master in a meeting with Harry Dunn. Mr ■Robinson was clerk of the course for the Akaroa County races. He took no part in the public life of the pakeha on the Peninsula, and lived wholly among the Maoris.
