CARTERTON NOTES.

(Special to Daily Times.)

Three special prizes have been donated by Mr C. J. DeLacey, of Greytown, to the Belvedere State School, to be awarded as follow .-—Standard VI.-For the best essay on a subject to be named by the headmaster. Standard V.—For the best map of New Zealand (principal towns, rivers and mountains inserted, and coloured). Standard IV. —For the best handwriting, to be judged on the day of the picnic by the committee, or whom they may appoint.

Mr W. Corlett, of Parkvale. who was hurt some weeks ago, by a horse rolling over him is slowly recovering, and is able to get about with the aid of walking sticks.

Constable Griffiths, of Carterton, who is visiting Rotorua for his health, is reported to be progressing satisfactorily.

Captain Browne, of the Defence Department, is in Carterton, in connection with the inspection of the mounted corps of the Wairarapa.

The anniversary of the local Methodist Sunday School is to be celebrated with special services, on Sunday next.

Mrs Grant, of Bannockburn, Gladstone, who has been suffering from an attack of influenza, has now quite recovered.
