CARTERTON NOTES.

The Hope of Carterton Tent, 1.0. R., held their usual fortnightly meeting on Monday evening, Bro. D. T. King, CR . presiding. Only routine business was transacted.

The St. John's Ambulance Association held their weekly meeting on Monday evening, when bandaging was the chief subject of the evening's instruction.

The member for the district has received word from the Minister for Lands that the power of exchange of Carterton lands, given to the Governor by an Act passed last session, is to be taken advantage of, and the present police station site will be changed accordingly, as a site for a town hall, for the section next to the Library.

Bro. E. McKenzie, V.A , presided at the half yearly meeting of the Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., on Monday night, when one member was initiated. The following officers were elected for the ensuing term :—A.D. Bro. E. McKenzie ; V.A. Bro. J. Nicholis; I.G. Bro. G. Hart; A.D.B's, Bros. G. Arcus and A. Thomas ; V.A.B's, Bros. P. Ashton and E. Wallis ; Treasurer, Bro. E. Martin ; Secretary, Bro. W. W.Mansfield ; 0.G.,8r0 J. H. Yerex; Auditors, Bros. J. Moncrieii and A. Ramsay; Delegate to the Grand Lodge, Bro. Mansfield. A committee has been appointed to arrange a social for the installation night.

The rainfall registered at Belvedere, last week, was 61 points.

The Taratahi Dairy Company are paying out to its suppliers, for the four weeks, the sum of £494 17s 7d, an advance of 15 per cent, on the amount paid out last year for the same period.

The Carterton Chamber of Commerce Council met on Monday, when a letter was received from the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, asking that delegates be sent to a conferencs at Masterton on the proposal to establish freezing works in the Wairarapa. It was decided to reply that, as Messrs Fairbrother and Lightfoot, members of the Council, who gathered certain data in connection with starting freezing works in the Wairarapa, are unfortunately not available for a conference on the date named, they regret they are not in a position to appoint delegates to meet the Masterton Chamber on December sth.—Mr A. G. Bayliss was granted an extension of time to report on the boot industry.—The resignation of Mr J. Laurenson, as secretary, was accepted with regret, and it was resolved to place on record the appreciation of his services. Mr E. R. L. Rutherford was appointed secretary.
