Obituary : Mr Wybert Reeve, actor. William Oxley, Governor of St. Alban's. gaol, has been sentenced to three years' penal servitude on charges of embezzling £250 of gaol money. A fire in Paris melted the spire of the Rouen belfry. The famous clock escaped injury. The passenger steamer Dix sank, after collision, in Puget Sound. Forty-one persons were drowned and thirty-nine were saved.

A Perth (Westralia) message states that an Italian, named Antoni Sala, was executed at Fremantle for the murder of his compatriot, Gregorini, at Mount Jackson on September 13th. Death was instantaneous.
Amid great excitement, Clarence Weber defeated Buttan Singh for the wrestling championship of Australia The Hindoo secured the first fall, Weber the second, then the Hindoo, who was greatly weakened, refused to go on. The War Office advertises to let the empty Saint Helens fort, one of the four circular forts guarding the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.
