THE FROZEN NORTH.
Some Terrible Experiences
(Received To-day, at 0.35 a.m.) London, Last Night
The details of Lieut. Peary's Arctic expedition show that they reached within 153 miles of the North Pole. When returning, the expedition encountered a severe snowstorm, the thermometer registering 75 below zero. The Esquimanx accompanying the expedition were nearly mad with hunger.
Lieut. Clarke, who was in charge of another party, was lost 160 miles from the ship. His experience was worse than Lieut. Peary's. He was afterwards rescued.
