{Received Last Night, at WM v.m.)

Capetown, Yesterday

A patrol numbering forty, under Inspector White, was in contact with Forreira fourteen miles eastward of Upington. After half-an-hour's fighting, Ferreira retired to the bush.

Inspector White returned to Upington owing to temporary illness. He started yesterday to intercept a second party of freebooters from the German party.

A third party is advancing towards Kakamas.

Raids are expected at Vanwykss Vley, Brand Vley (south of Upington), and Blockyynkelk, where there are quantities of unprotected stores, besides much harvested grain.

Guards are posted at Kakamas Drift, on the Orange River, to intercept any attempt on the part of the raiders to return to German territory. '
