WATER CONNECTIONS.
Breeze in the Borough Council.
At the meeting of the Borough Works Committee, held last week, it was recommended that the application of Mr M. Caselberg for an extra | inch water connection (he already having two |inch separate connections) to his property in Worksop-road be agreed to, the applicant to bear the cost of the work. At last night's meeting of the Council, Cr Temple moved to have the recommendation in question deleted from the report, on the ground that it was contrary to the by-laws, as well as all precedent, to give one resident three separate services to the one property unless the extra water to be consumed was paid for. Cr Morris seconded. A division was taken, and Cr Temple's motion was carried by five to four. It was mentioned that at the Works Committee meeting Cr Hoar (who was absent from the Council meeting) voted for the application, and the Mayor then declared he would not give his decision on the voting " till I have heard the voice of Cr Hoar." " This is most extraordinary—most extraordinary," indignantly declared Cr Temple. " Well, that is my ruling," added the Mayor, who said the proposal was a " spring " on the Council, and such tactics would induce him to insist on notice of motions being given to delete portions of reports. Mr Caselberg, on receiving notice that the Works Committee had agreed to the extra connection, had the necessary work at once carried out.
