Specifications of Various Works Agreed to.

Tenders to be Called

At the meeting of the Masterton Borough Couucil, held last evening, several works comprised in the £25,000 loan proposals were considered. lIKSSr.Y-STUEET. Specifications were submitted by the Engineer for formation and gravelling of llcssey-street, £120 being available.- -It was decided to invito tenders for the road formation and metalling, the. footpath not being included in the loan proposal. The Engineer presenlcd specifications for Church-street extension (formation and metalling), the sum of £100 being available. —Tenders to be invited for the work, which does not include the footpath. NGAMATAWA-ltOAli. The specifications, submitted by the Engineer, for formation and metalling on this road were accepted, and lenders are to invited, The sum of £75 is available. MAKOK.Y STREAM. In regard to the construction of culverts over Makora stream—one in Chapel-street and the other in Queen-street it was decided to invite alternative tenders for concrete ami wooden culverts. The Engineer estimated the cost of drainage of llcssey-street from present sewer in Worksop-road to the Hush tank in Ilesseystreet at £66-one manhole £10, eightchains 6in pipe sewer £56. To provide drainage for the three cottages in Roger Brown's Alley, the Engineer stated it would be necessary to construct a sower across a chain and a-half of the Presbyterian Church land, and then continue the sewer up the lane to the third house, the cost of laying ;he sewer being .£:'-l. Mr Lang.lon's .-tables could be drained into the Hes.-ey-sireet sewer if he acquired a right to drain through the Church pr.-perty. —It was decided to invite tenders for the work in accordance with the Engineer's report. 110NAI I>-STRI-,_l. Piuhey, owners of hind at ihe bottom of Wrigley-street, otlered hali'-aii-acre required for extending ihe street named through to Villa—treet for £100, the vendors io bear the cost of lemoving a house at present standing on the section. Messrs Pinliey Bro-. waited on the Council in reference to the matter, and stated as an alternative to ihe oiler, that after they had ascertained the conditions to

be imposed in the construction of the road extension, they would be prepared! to make an offer to carry out the work on certain terms. The MAYOR mroved that £100 be paid Messrs Pinhey Bros, for the section, and Cr EWINGTON seconded. Cr TEMPLE wanted the matter postponed, to give Councillors an opportunity to make an inspection of the site. This course was finally adopted, Messrs Piuhey Bros. agreeing to hold over their oiler till next Council night. The sum of £500 is on the loan schedule for this work, and the Engineer estimates that the road and footpath formation can be carried through for under £100.
