RABBIT INDUSTRY IN AUSTRALIA.
As an indication of the inducements now offered in tho work of rabbit trapping, the report of ono of the district inspectors of schools in New South Wales to the department is instructive :-" At tho present juncture," ho says, " it is a dillicult task to got children to do any home lessons. Tho high price of rabbit skins induces parents to employ thoir children for half the night in trapping rabbits. Many familios in tho district are earning as much as from £12 to £20 per week at tho business. In many of tho towns there is a ' wood famine,' it being impossible to lind carters willing to ' waste timo ' drawing wood when thoy can earn so much at trapping rabbits. From this causo also tho attendance at country schools during tho quarter now ending will bo greatly reduced."
