HOCKEY.

A team of Wellington ladies visited Masterton yesterday and played the Huia Club at Lansdewne, the match resulting in a win for the visitors by one goal to nil. The game was of an interesting character, some excellent passes and dribbling rushes being prominent features throughout. In the first half the Wellington team with the sun and wind at their backs had the advantage, keeping their territory quite clear for the major portion of the time, and during a vigorous attack ©n ■ Iluias citadel, Miss Fisher registered a smartly hit goal. The conditions were reversed in the second half when the local combination improved in their play, and gave the visitors a lively time defending their goal-line. The defence, however, was impenetrable, though the Huias were dangerously near scoring on two or- three occasions. On the whole the two teams were very evenly matched, and the spectators, who attended in strong force, were surprised at the creditable stand made by the local players. Miss James played excellently for ihe visitors, hitting with force and precision. Miss Wimsell also played a fast, accurate game. In the local ranks, Miss L. Barker was the most prominent, while Misses M. Smith, E. Smith, R. Hooper, Hampton and Wagg showed up well. Mr Wright, of Wellington, acted as referee.

Members of the Raupo Club went to Featherston yesterday and played a return match with the local Ladies' Club. The game, which was witnessed by a large number of spectators, ended in a draw, both sides scoring a goal apiece. The play was exciting and fast, and of a good order of merit. In the first spell the Raupo team held the advantage, but no score resulted. Both goals were notched in the second half. Miss Ban , scored for Featherston, and Miss Heyhoe for Raupo. The last-named player and Miss V. Carpenter were conspicuous in the Raupo division, while Misses Ban , and A. Cundy did excellent work for the home team.

The visitors were very hospitably entertained by the Featherston Club at luncheon in the Town Hall, also afternoon tea and supper. Miss E. Carpenter heartily thanked the Featherston Club for their hospitality.
