Charge of Attempted Murder. Accused Found Guilty. {By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, Last Night. Allan Hinehclilfe, aged twenty-eight, was I'.und guilty at the Supreme Court, to-day, of attempted murder of Mabel Clark, on February sth, and - also with attempted criminal assault. The facts of the case were that HinchcMe, who had been out of work, was befriended by a man named Clarke, and taken into his home as a guest. While staying at Clarke's, Hinchclifl'o became intimate with one of Clarke's daughters. The mother in the course of time suspected that something was wrong with her daughter, and asked her to see a doctor. This the girl refused to do. She told Hinchcliiie of her mother's suspicions, and he, saying " We will die together," administered aconite to the girl, and took a dose himself. Both were in great peril afterwards. Since then the girl had given birth to a child.
Justice Cooper sentenced Hinchcliffe to two years' imprisonment for attempted murder, and to three months for attempted suicide, sentences to run concurrently.
