SCHOOL CADETS.
Premier Opposes Compulsory Training. Speaking to a Press reporter, at Christchurch, Mr Seddon emphatically dissented from the suggestion that compulsory training as cadets should be imposed on the New Zealand schoolboys. " I have always set my face strongly," he said, " against anything savouring of conscription or compulsory service. There is no necessity Avhatever for it in this colony. The volunteering spirit stands out in bold relief in New ZeaJnl, and I don't Avant to see anything done T-Klwill cause a revulsion of feeling and quench that spirit to which I have alluded. There is no'necessity for compulsory training of cadets. There is quite sufficient in the present Education Act to provide all the authority that is required, and ifc only needs a little encouragement to get all the boys we want for cadet corps. As a rule most boys are eager to join before they reach the necessary aga.
