NEW ZEALAND'S FINANCE.
— ; +______ — . A Clean Balance-sheet for
:Once.
A Christchurch contemporary, in editorially commenting" on the colony's balancesheet published recently, says: "Perhaps tho most remarkable feature of the public accounts which we are able to summarise this morning is the absence of the familiar * tags' by the Audit Department. The Auditor-General is indisposed, and his deputy has not thought it necessary to challenge any of tho methods of tho Troasury. Probably when Mr Warburton resumes his duties he will find an opportunity for the exorcise of his nice critical faculty, but in the meantime tho Premier may congratulate himself upon the possession of a clean balance-shoot. Tho event is, wo think, without a precedent in his experience as Colonial Treasurer."
