CARTERTON NOTES.

A letter box has been erected at the corner of the railway station gates in Belvederestreet, and will prove a useful convenience to the public. It will be cleared four times during the day.

Good progress is being made with the erection of the brick building, in High-street, for Mr 11. E. AndreAvs.

The road in High-street, which in places was slightly above the ordinary level, has been receiving attention at the hands of the Borough stall, and is now much more comfortable for traffic.

The members of the local Methodist Band of Hope, Avho are to give an entertainment at Clareville one evening this Aveek, held a successful rehearsal on Monday evening. A long programme, Avhich includes two or three dialogues, besides numerous recitations, duets, etc., will be rendered.

The local section of the E Company Ruahine Infantry Battalion have decided to hold a social, at the end of the present month, to raise funds towards the new uniform they propose obtaining. A committee, consisting of Messrs G. Hulley, J. Stevens, W. King, J. Waters, J. Petersen, W. Johnston, and J. Underbill have been appointed to make arrangements for the function.

The Carterton Methodist Church have formed a Christian Endeavour Society, the first meeting of which was held on Tuesday evening.

The local Gun Club intend to hold a live bird match on the Prince of Wales Birthday.

The requisition signed by local tradespeople that the closing hours in the Borough should be 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 p.m. Thursdays, and 9 p.m. on Saturdays has been gazetted, and will come into operation on the first of next month.
