BRITAIN AND GERMANY.
• Burgomasters in London. Hospitably Entertained. Tactful Speech by Secretary for War. (Received To-day, at S.IS a.m.) London, Last Night. The Committee for the Study of Foreign Municipal Institutions entertained the German Burgomasters (the chief magistrates in Belgian, Dutch, German, and Austro Hungarian towns), at dinner, in London. Lord Avebury presided. King EdAvard, in response to a telegram of greetings, promised to receive the Burgomasters on Friday, and hoped the visit Avould be in every tvay pleasant and successful. Right Hon. R. B. Ilaldane, K.C., Secretary for War, speaking in German, described the Kaiser, who besides being a great European, Avas a great man, Avho had a keen appreciation of peace, commerce and education. The more Britain and Germany came together, he said, the better it would be for both.
