(Received Last Night, at 9.5S p.m.) London, Yesterday,

Following the example of King Edward (then Prince of Wales) on his return from India in 1876, the Prince of Wales expressed a desire that a thanksgiving service should be held at Westminster Abbey to mark his safe return.

The service was held yesterday. Among those present were King Edward, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and all the members of the Royal family in London; Lord Tvveedmouth, First Lord of the Admiralty; .and many other prominent persons. There were two hundred and fifty bluejackets from the warships Renown (in which the voyage to and from India was made) and Terrible, and drafts of marine infantry.

The Dean of Westminister (Dr J. A. Robinson), in his sermon, dwelt upon India's appreciation of her ■ great Emperor's beneficent rule and his personal care for her welfare.
