Red Star I. v. Greytown I.

The Red Star seniors met the Greytown seniors on the latter's ground, on Saturday. Both Clubs had placed good teams in the field, and an even match was expected. Stars won the toss, ancl played with the sun at their backs. Greytown attacked from the kick-off, but good punt kicks by the Star backs took play into the home team's territory. Give and take play followed, ancl then a forward rush by Greytown, in which Wickens, Beard and Raisen were conspicuous, caused the Stars to force clown. Shortly afterwards, from fast play by the Star forwards, Greytown forced twice in succession. The Star backs were doing excellent work, and it was not long before Wrigley was over the line. The kick at goal was a failureRed Stars 3, Greytown nil. Stars instituted a passing rush shortly after the kick, but P. Rogers intercepted, and carried play dangerously near the Star line ; Walker, however, carnc to the rescue with a kick to line. A passing rush between Stevens, P. Rogers, and C. Rogers saw the latter nearly cress the visitors' line. From a scrum in about the middle of the field, the ball came out to O'Connell, who transferred to Darville, the latter made a short run ancl passed on to Wrigley, who beat four of .the opposing backs, and scored his second try. The kick at goal was again fruitless and half time was called with the score —Red Stars 6, Greytown nil. On commencing the second spell Greytown immediately attacked, and 0. Rogers got over the Star line, but before he could ground the ball he was knocked out of touch by Wrigley. Play remained in mid field for a time, till a Star forward rush headed by Scorrar and Templeton saw the latter score. No goal resulted. Red Stars 9, Greytown nil. Stars continued to attack throughout the second half, ancl Wrigley scored his third try shortly before the call of time. The try was not converted. At the call of time the scores were—Red Stars 12, Greytown nil.

Mr E. McKenzie held the whistle and controlled the game in his usual capable manner.

Stars had, undoubtedly, the bist of the game throughout, and showed more form than their opponents. Wrigley played a splendid game in the backs, and was ably supported by O'Connell and Darville. The forwards all played a solid game, and it would be unfair to individualise them. For .Greytown, P. and C. Rogers did excellent work, and Stevens at half-back also played well. Wickens and Beard were the pick of the home team's forwards, the former especially doing fine line-out work.
