Estate of Robert McCartie

A petition in bankruptcy has been filed by Robert McCartie, painter, of Martinborough, and the first meeting of creditors has been

fixed for the 24th inst., at Mr J. W. Card's

office, Martinborough. According to the statement lodged with the D.0.A., assets amount to £153 6s Bd, liabilities £239 15s, leaving an apparent deficiency of £85 18s 4d. The creditors include chiefly Martinborough business firms, and are as follows :— Pain and Kershaw £C 0 ss, T. Kennedy £42, E. G. Harris £20, J. Adams £12, T. W. Orbell £6, H. McKay £15, T. Green £6 13s 9d, Mrs Knight £1 10s, J. W. McCarthy £5 7s 6d, J. W. Card (rent) £12 15s Bd, Benton and Son 17s Id, H. O. Ramsden £1 15s, A. Nicol £1 10s, G. Bennett, £12 11s, and M. Gaskin £1 Bs. Welling ton creditors are: C. Smith £4 15s, W. Spring £4, Os borne and Baker £5, Levin and Co. £8. Wages are due to H. Scott, £6, and Mullins, £3. In a written statement, bankrupt says he started in business in partnership with Clement Sofl'e in 1905, and plenty of work was obtained, but losses were sustained on one or two contracts.

Later, bankrupt took over the whole of the

liabilities of the firm, under agreement with partner, but it was only then he disthe obligations of the firm to be as heavy as they were. Creditors pressed him and he had to file.
