CROP PROSPECTS DOWN SOUTH.
The extremely wet season which has been experienced throughout Otago has been the causo of retarding the ripening of crops. On the Tokomairiro Plain there is a largo acreage still uncut, and it will be well on towards the end of this mouth before the last of the crop is in ttook. Cutting haj never been known to be so late, and consequently the threshing is behind. In former years the threshing was well on by this time, but this year only one or two of the mills have made a start as yet. One of these mill-owners, with an extensive knowledge of the capabilities of this plain, informed a representative of the Otago Daily Times that the yield is poor compared with former years, and land which in an ordinary season returned from 50 to 60 bushels per acre would thresh out very little over 30. He puts this down to the wet season.
