ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPORTS.

Executive Committee.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the St. Patrick's Day Sports Committee was held in the Technical School building on Saturday evening. Present:—Mr G. Watson (in the chair), and Messrs M. C. O'Connell, A. Haughey, F. Haughey, H. J. O'Leary, E. G. Williams, W. L. Falconer, J. Pickett, J. C. McKillop, 0. O'Sullivan, B. Chapman and J. O'Dowd.

It was decided to place the sale of privileges in the hands of Messrs Abraham and Williams, and Mr O'Connell and the Secretary to arrange reserves, etc.

Mr C. Cooper and Miss Kearney were elected members.

The Secretary was instructed to communicate with the Masterton Band in reference to supplying music on the d iy of the Sports.

The matter of alien ling i> the grounds (particularly the cycle track) was referred to the Ground Commillee, who will meet on the Oval on Thursday next at 2 p.m.

A report was made by the Secretary on the proposal to form a governing body in New Zealand for athletic sports. He mentioned that, in compliance with a circular sent out last year by Mr Gilfedder, of Invercargill, Mr G. Mcllattie, and the speaker represented the Wairarapa Caledonian Society at a conference of delegates held in Wellington. It was then decided that the various delegates should make an effort to establish associations in their districts to control and govern all local athletic sports, and a New Zealand Union be established to embrace all duly affiliated associations and societies. The first meeting of the Union is to be held in Christchurch during the International Exhibition. The idea of forming a Union was strongly supported by Mr O'Connell, who recognised the importance of having a governing body, as was the case with other classes of sport Messrs A. Haughey, Falconer, McKillop, also approved the proposal. Messrs J. C. McKillop and L Haughey were appointed delegates to the Association to meet representatives 'from other athletic bodies at a meeting which will shortly be convened by Mr Thos. Duncan.

A general meeting of members of the Association is to be held on March 3rd, when officials for Sports Day will be elected.
